about the artist
I spent the early years of my artistic career studying at Dartmouth where I was able to explore the intersection of craft and the natural world of New England around me. While exploring the White Mountains of New Hampshire on the weekends, racing the morning sun up the rocky coastline of Maine, and sailing the crystal clear lakes of Vermont in between classes, I found that my muse was the harmony of nature and it's interactions with the landscapes it resides in. This informed my studies and lead me to pursue a degree in the arts. After graduating with a BA in Studio Art and extended studies in Art History and Human Centered Design from the Thayer School of Engineering, I began working under master craftsman in Vermont building bespoke solid wood furniture. It was here that I was given the opportunity to witness the nuances and importance of environmentally conscious design. A passion that informs my work and practices today.
artist statement

The motivation for my artwork is to give locally reclaimed materials a second life and a new purpose. I derive my inspiration from designing in harmony with the environment and accentuating the innate beauty in natural materials. I seek to recreate the perceptions of the use of reclaimed wood. My works come from attempting to reshape and give materials a new meaning. I enjoy the complexities of transforming unique materials into sculptures that alter the expectations of the viewer while also creating new purposes for these discarded materials. My favorite medium to construct with is pallet wood. I’ve found that each individual plank obtains a local history and a character of its own through its original purpose and utilization. Finding alternative purposes for reused materials adds another cycle in the material’s life and in turn helps to stabilize the life of our planet.
